Work begins on £225million rail transit shuttle to Luton Airport

CONSTRUCTION work has begun on the £225million rail link that will connect Luton Airport with Luton Airport Parkway railway station.

The Luton DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit) will be a double-shuttle, fully-automated people-mover, capable of operating 24 hours a day.

The proposed ‘gateway’ bridge on the new link between Luton’s airport and railway station.

It will be a cable-driven system offering a journey time of less than four minutes and connections to central London in 30 minutes – faster than Liverpool Street to Stansted and comparable with Victoria to Gatwick.

The 1.3 mile (2.1km) route will run between two purpose-built stations at Bartlett Square (next to the station) and the airport terminal, crossing a ‘gateway’ bridge over Airport Way.
