Saphos reports 75% of tickets sold for debut trains

New main line railtour operator Saphos Trains has announced nine of its first 12 trains are now fully booked with the remaining three being more than 50% sold.

Peter Watkinson, marketing manager for Saphos, commented: “The public support for the launch of our new trains has been overwhelming.

No. 46100 Royal Scot features prominently in Saphos Trains’ initial tour programme. On March 6, it rekindled memories of BR steam days at Crewe when it briefly pulled alongside ‘Black Five’ No. 45212. The ‘5MT’ was taking water while working from Bury to Southall, with the rebuilt ‘Scot’ returning from crew training to Chester in advance of its work for Saphos this summer. SIMON POOLE

“The surge of bookings and feedback indicate there is a growing demand for steam-hauled trains on the main line running over popular routes, at affordable prices and sensible timings without the need for a crack of dawn start and midnight finish.

One change to the 2018 season is the ‘English Riviera Express’ trains to Kingswear and Dartmouth on June 24 and July 1will now be steam-hauled throughout from Bristol instead of being diesel-hauled between Bristol and Taunton.
