Lynemouth biomass deal secures GBRf jobs

A TEN-year contract to deliver biomass to Lynemouth power station has been won by
GB Railfreight, securing drivers’ jobs in the North East.

The Lynemouth contract adds another biomass string to GBRf’s bow. On January 15,  Class 66 No. 66765 passes Rainhill with the 08.20 Liverpool Biomass Terminal-Drax Power Station run. DOUG BIRMINGHAM

The power station opened in 1972, then owned and operated by Alcan to provide energy for the production of aluminium at the nearby Lynemouth Smelter, which closed in March 2012.

Power continued to be generated until the end of last year after RWE took over the management in 2013.
