New Decauville loco approaches completion

THE first of a planned batch of new-build 2ft-gauge, three-ton Decauville 0-4-0T locomotives to be built by North Bay Engineering Services Ltd (RM Nov 2016) was displayed at the November 25-26 Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC.

The loco is being constructed for John Sutton and is about 90% complete. Remaining work largely comprises pipes and completing the motion and fitting components, which have already been produced.

Steam testing is expected at Easter 2018.

Talks are progressing concerning building a further two Decauville 0-4-0Ts.

North Bay Engineering Services Ltd (NBES) was set up in 2013 and has been operating at Scarborough’s North Bay Railway, where Bagnall ‘Sipat’ design 0-4-0ST Georgina was built – it entered service on the 20in-gauge line at Easter 2016.
