AROUND 15,000 Network Rail engineers and contractors were expected to work around the clock delivering improvements and repairs at more than 400 locations across Britain over the Easter weekend.
In total, around £118million was due to be spent on major projects, including NR’s biggest resignalling scheme in Bristol, further preparations for Crossrail on the Great Eastern Main Line, and a 10-day blockade of the Edinburgh to Glasgow via Shotts route in Scotland to rebuild stations and continue electrification work.
On the GEML, almost 5km of new overhead wire will be installed between Gidea Park and Forest Gate as part of a £249million project to replace life-expired equipment with new wiring that adapts to temperature changes to reduce delays and improve reliability.
