‘A1’ No. 60163 Tornado has gained approval for regular operation at 90mph following its 100mph test run in April.
It will make its first public outing at the higher speed on April 14.
UK Railtours’ ‘Ebor Flyer’ will take the ‘A1’ from London King’s Cross to York via the East Coast Main Line, picking up at Potters Bar and Peterborough, before the dash to York.

The train will be steam-hauled throughout and includes a four-hour break at the destination, where passengers have the chance to visit the National Railway Museum or explore the city.
On the return leg, the train will descend Stoke Bank, the location of Mallard’s 126mph world steam speed record run in July 1938, where Tornado will hopefully be able to show off its own high-speed performance.
