Riddles Class 4 replaces Class 5 at WSR gala

A MONTH is a long time in the world of railway preservation as West Somerset Railway found out when two of its announced Autumn Steam Gala guest locomotives were pulled from the line-up.

BR ‘Standard 4’ No. 75014 Braveheart passes Waterside Caravan Park with the 16.30 Kingswear-Paignton Queens Park service on June 20. The loco is booked to appear at the West Somerset Railway’s October gala. DAVID HUNT

On September 10 the Camelot Locomotive Society (CLS) announced it had been forced to remove BR ‘5MT’ No. 73082 Camelot from the October 5-8 gala, stating they “were not able to complete the arrangements in good time prior to the departure of the locomotive at the beginning of next month”. Instead, the CLS hopes to rearrange the visit for some time during 2018.

Agreement has therefore been reached for the Dartmouth Steam Railway’s BR ‘4MT’ No. 75014 Braveheart to appear in the ‘5MT’s’ place, being only the second ‘4MT’ 4-6-0 to run on the line in preservation and the first for more than 20 years; the last was No. 75069 in 1995.
