STATFOLD Barn Railway (SBR) opened its new season with a stunning March 25 open day.
The two field lines featured 17 SBR locos plus Phil Mason’s visiting Kerr, Stuart ‘Sirdar’ class 0-4-0T Diana in steam.
The home fleet included the public debut of newly restored ex-Rugby Portland Cement, Southam, Peckett Liassic (1632/1923), repatriated from Canada in 2012.

Two battery-electrics also featured: Burton and Ashby Light Railway Tram No. 14 (see separate story) and South Tynedale Railway’s Clayton battery-electric locomotive Newcastle. It was displayed in the running shed following conversion from standard gauge to 2ft at SBR and made an afternoon demonstration run to Oak Tree.
Two more SBR locos ran on the Garden Line: vertical boiler 0-4-0 tender loco ex-Paddy, now carrying a Howard nameplate, with chestnut brown livery, lined in red, and new lettering, while Kerr, Stuart ‘Wren’ 3128/1918 Roger appeared in grey with white (edged black) lining and I S C Ltd No. 2 lettering.
