PULLMAN Car Phoenix became the oldest rail vehicle to move by rail through the Channel Tunnel in late-March.
It is part of the Belmond ‘British Pullman’ train.
The 1927-built Parlour Car was moved by DB Cargo UK from London to Dollands Moor and over Eurotunnel metals to Frethun, before being taken forward to Clermont-Ferrand by DB Cargo’s French subsidiary Euro Cargo Rail.

It was attached to the rear of empty vans returning to France after delivering Volvic bottled water to the UK, and was the first time that such an historic wooden-framed carriage of its type has undertaken such a journey.
It has been moved to undergo an internal restoration and external overhaul at a specialist workshop in the area.
