Green light at last for Worcester Parkway

WORCESTER is to gain an out-of-town parkway station offering better connections to the national network – more than 40 years after it was first mooted.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has given its approval for the development of Worcestershire Parkway, allowing Worcestershire County Council to press ahead with its construction on a site at Norton, where the North Cotswold Line crosses the main Birmingham to Bristol railway.

The scheme was costed at £22million in 2015 – the current price is not being revealed – and will be part-funded by a £7.5m Government grant, plus £8.3m from the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, and loans to be paid off using car parking fees and levies on train operators using the station.
