FIFTY years of the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) was marked in appropriate fashion when all of its operable engines gathered for a celebratory gala.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway hosted the trio of NELPG-owned motive power, which ranged from a brutish Raven 0-8-0 to a diminutive Worsdell 0-6-0 tank engine.
The in-house trio was completed with the return of Peppercorn ‘K1’ No. 62005 from its annual Scottish duties.

It was originally anticipated that the group’s fourth representative locomotive – ‘J27’ No. 65894 – would have been up-and-running in good time to take part in the October 28-30 celebrations, but its Crewe- (boiler) and Darlington- (chassis and tender) based overhaul is still ongoing.
Any lingering disappointment was compensated by the bonus inclusion of Thompson ‘B1’ 4-6-0 No. 61264 throughout the weekend, as it continues its rehabilitation following major wheelset repairs.
