Stormy weather causes rail disruption

Severe stormy weather with wind speeds in excess of 90mph in Scotland has created widespread disruption on rail services.
With many lines facing the risk of fallen trees, debris and damaged overhead power cables a number of ScotRail services on January 3, 2012, were suspended.
By mid-morning, all services between Glasgow and Edinburgh over the Falkirk, Bathgate, Shotts and Carstairs routes had been suspended, with passengers being advised not to travel as no replacement road transport is available.
On the Inverness - Edinburgh/Glasgow route, train were running between Inverness and Perth only, and again no replacement road transport available.
Surburban electric services between Dalmuir or Milngavie to Larkhall / Motherwell / Lanark are also suspended.
First TransPennine Express is not running services between Carlisle and Edinburgh or Glasgow, and Virgin has suspended all trains north of Carlisle.
On CrossCountry and East Coast, no services are running from Edinburgh to Aberdeen.
East Coast is running to amended timetable on some routes with services between Retford and Newark North Gate, with delays of 60 mins reported.
