APRIL was a bumper month for fans of rebuilt Bulleid ‘Pacifics’ with the simultaneous return to running of ‘West Country’ Braunton and ‘Merchant Navy’ Peninsular & Oriental S. N. Co.
Happy days as rebuilt Bulleids return to action
Toddington, April 4: No. 35006 Peninsular & Oriental S. N. Co begins to tally what would be 70 miles of trouble-free running ahead of its planned return to service in May. BOB SWEET
Braunton made its first test runs on the main line since 2014 on April 20, coupled to its support coach, on two return trips between Crewe and Chester; appropriately this is the traditional route used by the original Crewe works for post-repair running-in turns.
That followed a progression of gentle bedding-in runs at LNWR Heritage, Crewe Diesel Depot, which boasts a quarter mile of track.
