GWSR’s Broadway appeal exceeds £1million mark

MORE than £1million has now been raised in the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway’s Broadway: The Last Mile share offer, only 10 months after the appeal was formally launched.

Work on the new station building at Broadway is making good headway, with the brickwork now up to the height of the eaves and the timber joists going in for the ceiling. The main roof supports are being assembled at Toddington by the line’s locomotive department. This was the scene on February 4. JO ROESEN

On February 1 the fund sat at £989,000, but a generous share application from Phillip Bowden took it past the £1m mark the next day. This now leaves less than £250,000 to raise before the share offer closes at the end of April, with the railway on target to reopen to Broadway next spring.

“The rate that money has been coming in means that we can, with confidence, say the extension will open to the public on March 30, 2018,” said the railway’s volunteer finance director, Chris Bristow.
