VALE of Rheidol Railway’s 2-6-2T No. 9 Prince of Wales appeared in a new Great Western Railway green livery at the November 26-27 Warley National Model Railway Exhibition at Birmingham’s NEC.
It has also reverted to its historic No. 1213, as carried from delivery in 1924 until 1948, and does not carry a nameplate in this form.
Under 1923 Grouping, Vale of Rheidol Railway (VoR) became part of Great Western Railway (GWR). Investing in its ‘new’ 2ft-gauge line, GWR’s board authorised construction of two new 2-6-2Ts (subsequently known as No. 7 Owain Glyndŵr and No. 8 Llywelyn), which replaced two original Davies
& Metcalfe-built 2-6-2s that had served VoR since opening in 1902.
