‘4F’ pilots a struggling Bulleid in true S&D style

THE Keighley & Worth Valley Railway has finally staged a meaningful enthusiasts’ gala following the cessation of a year-long road block – but the October event was not without its own drama.

Guest Bulleid Pacific No. 34053 Sir Keith Park struggled in damp conditions on October 7 as it battled against loss of adhesion on the curving 1-in-56 climb out of Keighley station.

Blocked sanders were blamed for the excruciating 66-minute run over the 4½ mile line to Oxenhope, punctuated by controlled slips that surrendered any significant control over the six-coach train that the Severn Valley Railway-based Pacific had.
